Email marketing

You’ve built your online presence. You’re creating content, showing up on social media, and working on your search visibility. But here’s the thing about all of those channels — you don’t own any of them.
A social media platform can change its algorithm overnight and cut your reach in half. A search engine update can push your site down the rankings. Paid advertising stops the moment you stop paying. Every channel you rely on that you don’t control is a channel that can be taken away.

Your email list is different. It’s yours.

No algorithm decides who sees your newsletter. No platform can throttle your reach or charge you to access your own audience. When someone joins your list they’re giving you direct access to their inbox — and that’s the most valuable piece of digital real estate in online marketing.

A well-run newsletter doesn’t just keep your audience informed. Email marketing for small business builds trust, drives traffic, generates sales, and creates a stream of residual income that grows with your list. It’s not the flashiest part of your online presence. But it might be the most important one.

Email marketing for small business: a primer

What do small businesses need to know about email marketing?

Your list

An email list is a collection of people who have given you permission to contact them directly — in their inbox, not through a social platform or search engine. Quality always beats quantity. 500 engaged readers outperform 5000 disinterested ones every time.

Your platform

An email platform, or email service provider (ESP) sends your newsletter, manages your list, and tracks your results. We work with Kit, purpose-built for small businesses and content creators. Whichever ESP you choose, we’ll get you set up, connected, and confident using it.

Getting people on your list

Growing your list means giving people a good reason to sign up. A lead magnet — a free guide, checklist, or short email course — gives visitors a reason to give you their email address. We help you figure out what your audience wants and build something worth signing up for.

Your newsletter

Consistency beats perfection every time. We help you find the right frequency, develop a content framework, and write in a voice that sounds like you. As much or as little involvement as you want — we work with you.

Welcome sequences

The moment someone joins your list is the most important in your email relationship. A simple automation sends a short series of three to five welcome emails that set expectations, introduces you, and keeps new subscribers engaged before your regular newsletter begins.

Measuring results

Email is one of the most measurable channels you have. Open rates, click rates, list growth — the numbers tell you what’s working. We help you understand what they actually mean and use them to make each issue better than the last.

That pot of gold at the end of the online marketing rainbow?

Questions and answers

  1. Are there any hidden costs?

No. Our pricing covers everything listed according to the pricing structure above with no additional fees from us. The one additional cost to be aware of is your Email Service Provider subscription, which may vary depending on which ESP you choose (we use Kit.com . We’ll help you choose the right ESP and the right plan for where you are now, with room to grow.

  2. How often should I send out a newsletter?

For most small businesses, once a month is a perfectly respectable starting point — enough to stay visible without burning yourself out trying to fill an inbox every week (which some recipients might not like anyway). The right frequency is the one you can maintain without it feeling like a chore. We’ll help you find that rhythm and build a valuable content framework around it.

  3. What should I talk about in my newsletter?

Think about the most commonly asked questions from your customers. What can you tell them about your products, your industry, your upcoming programs, or current specials? You can also offer products or services directly through your newsletter — turning it into a genuine sales channel. The best newsletters feel like a helpful friend writing to you — not a company broadcasting at you. Part of our strategy work is figuring out exactly what that looks like for your specific business and audience.
